AEPS

AEPS stands for Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. It is a banking service launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that allows people to perform basic financial transactions using their Aadhaar number and biometric authentication (like fingerprint or iris scan), instead of traditional methods like debit cards, cheques, or signatures.

How AEPS Works

  • Customer visits a Banking Correspondent (BC) / Micro ATM agent with Aadhaar linked to their bank account.
  • Provides Aadhaar number and selects the type of transaction.
  • Biometric verification is done (fingerprint/iris scan).
  • The system sends this request to the NPCI AEPS switch.
  • NPCI verifies details with UIDAI and routes the request to the customer’s bank.
